Inviting friends
There’s multiple ways to invite your friends to Zangi:
Option 1) Go to your app Contacts → under All contacts → tap on a contact that doesn’t have a Zangi label next to their name → tap Invite to Zangi.
After this step, you will have two ways to invite someone: Invite by SMS or Invite through your chosen sharing channel. You can choose the option that works best for you and send your Zangi invite directly to the person you want to connect with. SMS messages will be charged as standard outgoing SMS by your carrier (unless sent via iMessage).
Option 2) Go to your app Settings → Invite Friends → choose Invite by SMS or Send Send Invitation via… (iOS) or Share (Android) → choose the contacts you want to invite.
Here’s a simple example of what you can say if you’re inviting a friend to connect with you on Zangi:
You:
Hey, I use Zangi for texting and calling - add me there. The call quality is great, and you don’t need to use your personal phone number to sign up. The app gives you a private in-app number instead, so you can communicate without sharing your real contact details. I like it because it’s secure, private, and doesn’t collect unnecessary personal information. Plus, there are no ads, reels, stories, or distractions, just messaging, calls, and file sharing.
Adding contacts
All your phone contacts will also appear in your contacts list on Zangi. If you would like to add new contacts, go to Contacts → tap on the +.
On iOS
Open Chats, then tap the + icon. From there, you can start a new chat or add a contact using their Zangi Private Number.
On Android
Tap the pencil/edit icon to start a new chat. Then choose Add Contact and enter the person’s Zangi Private Number.
From the Number Pad
Open the Number Pad, type the person’s Zangi Private Number, then tap Add Contact to save them and start communicating.
Contacts are always synced from your phone contacts. So if you add/delete a contact on your phone it will also appear in your Zangi contacts and vice versa.
Searching for contacts
To search for contacts, simply go to Contacts → and use the search engine on top.
Messaging/calling contacts
Calling or messaging contacts is made as simply as possible. You can start conversing from almost any section on Zangi:
Option 1) From Contacts → tap on the profile of a contact → tap on Call, Video, Chat.
Option 2) From Calls → Keypad → enter the phone number of the person you want to call → tap on the call button → tap on either Call, Video, Chat.
Option 3) From Chats → tap on the pencil icon on Android and + on IOS→ enter a namel to start chatting with → message them.
Option 4) If you’ve already started messaging with someone: Enter that chat→ tap on the call icon in the top right corner→ tap on Call or Video call.
Option 5) If you’ve already had a call with someone: Calls → tap on the (i) on the right side of call → tap on Call, Video, Chat.
Please note: If a single contact has more than one Zangi number, Zangi will ask which number you’re choosing, before messaging/calling them.
Editing/deleting contacts
There are two ways to delete a contact on Zangi.
Option 1: From the Chat
Open the chat with the contact you want to delete. Tap the contact’s name at the top of the screen to open their contact information. From there, you can tap Delete Contact. You may also tap Edit, then choose Delete Contact.
Option 2: From App Contacts
Open the app contacts list and tap the name of the contact you want to remove. This will open their contact information. Tap Edit on IOS/3 dots then Edit on Android - Delete Contact, then confirm that you want to delete the contact.
On Android, you can also delete a contact directly from the contact list by long-pressing the contact’s name and selecting Delete.
Adding contacts to favorites
There are two ways to add someone to your favorites.
Option 1: From the Contact’s Profile
Open the contact you want to add, then go to their Contact Info page. From there, tap Add to Favorites to save them as a favorite contact.
Option 2: From Contacts
Go to Contacts → Add to Favorites and choose the contact you want to add. You can also tap a contact’s name to open their profile information, then select Add to Favorites from there.
How do I know when my friend was last online?
To see when a friend was last on Zangi, open your chat with them → on the top left under their name you will see “Last visit on/at …”. If you don’t see such details, tap on the name for more info → you will see their last online date and/or time.
You can also view when your friend was last online by going to Contacts
I don’t see my contact’s online status
If you don’t see the last online time under a contact’s name, that means:
- They’ve turned off their Online Status from their Privacy Settings
- They haven’t been online for a very long time
- They’ve blocked you
I don’t see my contact(s)
If you know your friends have Zangi, but you can't see them:
- Check if you gave Zangi permission to your native contacts
- Check if the Zangi Private number of your friend is correct.
- Ask them to try messaging/calling you first.
- Make sure you are using the latest version of the app.
- Force quit and relaunch the app.
- If you still can’t figure out what’s going wrong, contact support and send us a detailed description of the problem.
Blocking someone
To block someone go to your app Settings → Privacy → Blocked → Add New(For IOS) or +(For Android) → choose the contact(s) you want to block. Blocked contacts will no longer be able to call you or send you messages.
You can also tap on the contact’s name and block them from their profile info → Block this Contact.
Reporting someone
To report someone on Zangi, open the chat with the contact you want to report.
On iOS, tap the contact’s name at the top of the chat to open their profile information. From there, scroll down and tap Report.
On Android, tap the three dots in the upper-right corner of the chat. A drop-down menu will appear, where you can select the Report option.
After tapping Report, you can choose either Report or Report and Block. If you select Report and Block, the contact will be reported and will no longer be able to call you or send you messages.
You should report someone if they are sending spam, suspicious links, unwanted messages, offensive content, threats, or anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
How do I know if I’m blocked?
There are a couple of indicators that you may be blocked:
- You can no longer see a contact's last seen or online in the chat window.
- You do not see updates to a contact's profile photo.
- Any messages sent to a contact who has blocked you will always show one check mark (message sent), and never show a second check mark (message delivered).
- Any calls you attempt to place will not go through.
If you see all of the indicators above for a contact, this could mean that the user is blocking you. However, there are other possibilities. We have made this intentionally ambiguous in order to protect your privacy when you block someone. Thus, we cannot tell you if you are being blocked by someone else.
